Pleased With the System

I'm impressed by the fast shipping. I do with I could have shortened the line set a little more. I read that the most I could remove was 6 feet without affecting the charge and that is how much I removed but 8 feet would have been perfect. The only other issue was the line wrap that was included. There was only enough to wrap about 6 feet of the line. All in all it is a great system and I would definitely buy it again. This is my 3rd Pioneer system.

Built in the 70's

My home was built in 1971 It had a motel type 14000 btu AC unit through the wall ( brick veneer) I bought this place in 1999 and the 14k AC finally gave out in 2002. I have been struggling with 3 window units to cool the house. During June through August and some of September, it just gets awful hot and sticky here in North Carolina. I've been looking at mini splits for the last couple of summers and finally July 2023 I purchased the Pioneer 18000 btu single head unit. My plans were to purchase another 18000 btu but with 2 heads and put one in the master and one in the guest bedroom as these two rooms are corner rooms with 2 outside walls. The third bedroom should be fine stuck in the middle of the two systems. Well after installing the single head 18000 btu in my living room on the wall adjacent to the kitchen and dining room, it will cool these three areas and almost the entire 1200 sq feet house. I am now thinking to get another 18000 btu 2 head as planned, install one 9000 head in the master bedroom and put the other 9000 head in the half finished basement. This house was built with electric base board heat. After the first crazy high power bill, they were shut off at the breaker and years later removed during remodeling, so gas logs and small space heaters have been the source of heat for over 22 years, hopefully with the mini split systems, I won't have to worry about heating the house. The propane gas logs will be great as a back up heat alternative. The installation guide in some sections was a bit misleading and not clear, but if you have mechanical skills and some common sense it's not a bad install. The worst for me on the install was penetrating through the brick. A hammer drill, a little brick chisel and some patience and the hole was through with minimum to seal up. I wish the hole/sleeve was a bit larger for the line set and condensate drain...plus the wall kit was just enough to fit the line set wires and condensate drain in. It would have been easier if it was larger also. The pattern that came with the unit was off on the measurements for the hole ***********, I measured all this before I mounted bracket or cut the wall ***********, I'm glad I measured or I would have had to morter up some brick. But all is well. Measure twice..! We had 5 days of 90 plus highs and the house has been a cool 72 degrees 24/7. The first couple of days it maintained 68 degrees and we woke up freezing. It took some adjusting. We wound up setting temperature to 71 and turning it up to 74 at bed time.

DYI install glitch

The 18 K Pioneer unit got delivered on time. The install went great, packaged very nicely. The only issue I had was that the connection on the large copper refrigerant line on the inside did not seal properly. One reason I believe is they sent these strange cone shaped washers to go in between the flare fitting, I’ve made mini flare connections in my life and never have a problem. Devices in my opinion should not be included in the kit. I asked the guy who had to come out and re-install the R410 A Freon said he never heard of those little cone shape washers to go on a flare fitting before. I think they were trying to help the DYI folks but instead it backfired on me. The unit is now operating perfectly. We love it.

Experience was great, received the unit quickly. My only complaint would be that the warranty isn’t valid unless you have an HVAC tech install it.
